10 Reasons I Love Windows Phone

Here are my 10 reasons why I love Windows Phone. Or Windows 10 Mobile. Or rather whatever Microsoft calls it in the next two years.

1. The User Interface : I had a hard time with Android couple years ago. My phone was constantly getting freezed and it was lagging a lot . It was running Android 4.2 Jelly bean. Back then, I had no idea about Windows Phones. People started writing them off due to lack of apps. I was just following the crowd. One of my friends had a WP and I was pretty impressed by its stylish metro UI and was left amazed by its smoothness. I decided I had to buy a WP. Some time later, I got myself a Lumia 525. It felt like a breath of fresh air coming from the mess that was Android. I then realized how bad Android’s UI was.

 2. Home Screen : Windows Phone has got live tiles. Android has got icons which are static. And boring.  Live Tiles > Icons because they look much much better and are displaying you live information. Decide for yourself which looks better.

3.Performance : Performance is a big deal. Especially on your daily driver. It is observed that a Windows Phone with one gig of ram runs lot better than most android phones with two gigs of ram. This speaks volumes about Performance on Windows phones. Me, for instance, have never had any issues with my 525 nor with my current daily driver, the 930.

4. The Keyboard : The swipe keyboard that was first introduced in Windows phone 8.1 made its way to the Guinness records. It is that fast and it’s predictions are amazing as well. Even Tom warren of The Verge who is using iPhone 6S as his daily driver misses the keyboard WP offers.

5. Microsoft Edge : I recommend you check out the new browser, Microsot Edge which debuted with Windows 10. Its super fast on PC and Mobile both. Way better than most browsers i have used. Plus, it has reading list and reading view plus dark theme. Heck, it even has Cortana integration, plus lot new features coming in the future updates or builds.

6. Cortana : Words fail me to tell you how smart Cortana is. It has all your interests saved in her Notebook and will even crack jokes and sing songs. Cortana can give you suggestions, ideas, reminders and more. Microsoft is working hard to give users their own Cortana. If you’re in India, you get Indian Cortana. Now, If you’re in China, you get Chinese Cortana.  It outsmarts Google now and Siri. Its even out on Android and iOS as beta.

7. Continuum :  We have already seen demos of phone apps running on PC. This is super cool technology    and its coming out with the new Lumias, the 950 and the 950XL. This makes your Phone your Pocket PC which you can connect to any PC running Windows 10 and work on it. Check out MSFT’s October 6th New Devices event and see for yourself how smart continuum is

 8. Universal Apps : This has me exciting. Universal apps run across your Phone, PC, Xbox and even  Hololens. It is one app running across all the platforms. Microsoft has already made Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneNote, Photos, Outlook mail and a lot of other apps as Universal. Biggies like Facebook, Instagram and Uber are already making their Universal apps. The App gap is real. I miss a handful of apps like Quora, My local bank app, Coursera and more on my phone. I use edge or some unofficial apps to make up for the apps I miss. But I’m hopeful Windows 10 Universal app model will lure a lot of companies to make their Windows apps.

9. Messaging with Skype Integration : Now with Windows 10, you get notifications of messages and missed calls by Cortana on your PC (and you can even reply to the message on PC) when you’re away from your phone. The new Skype integration in the messaging app is super cool and hope other messaging apps like WhatsApp follow this model.

10.Dark Themes : Dark Themes, Dark themes everywhere. Lets get straight to the point. I love dark themes and many other people do.Having options is a nice thin. Good that Microsoft has realized that. We have already got dark themes incorporated into Store app, Outlook Mail and Calendar apps and I’d love to see many more apps with dark themes, BTW, I love Twitter’s dark theme on my 930. It looks way better plus less strain on your eyes.

So, these were my Ten reasons I love Windows Phone. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below.
