Which is the best browser for your laptop's battery life? Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Edge?

There is no denying the fact that Google Chrome dominates the Internet browser world, both on mobile and workstations. We don't need to show reasons why it does so, either. It's pretty fast, supports tons of add-ons for those of you love customization and extra features.
Most importantly, it uses WebKit engine for both the Windows desktop and the Android version which, while consumes plenty of memory, loads websites amazingly fast.

However, there exists a con for every pro. While Google Chrome still is the fastest and the most popular browser in the world, it consumes a lot of memory. But, should you bother about the amount of memory consumption on your laptop? Maybe you should. This is no rocket science. But when a program uses lot of RAM, the RAM and the processor in return, consumes a lot of juice out of battery to produce enough power for the programs to run. This results in lowered battery life, and slower laptop performance (unless you use a high-end laptop).

Then what can I do about it?

1. You can remove or disable some Extensions / Add-ons from your Google Chrome browser to save some RAM.
2. You can clean your browser's cache once in a while, to remove unnecessary dump files which often feed on RAM.
3. You must ensure that you're using the latest version of Chrome.

What can I do to save even more RAM?

Use a different browser.

Mozilla Firefox is not as good as Chrome, but when it comes to memory usage, Firefox has indeed got some tricks up it sleeves to show off. It uses much less memory than Chrome. It also has almost all the Add-ons that Chrome has to offer.

And what about the battery ?

However, Firefox still consumes a plenty more battery than Microsoft Edge. In fact, Edge consumes the least amount of battery from your laptop and can let it run a few hours more than the others.

This video from Microsoft illustrates the above quote:

In the above video streaming test,

1. Chrome killed the laptop battery at 4 hours and 19 minutes.
2. Firefox still had an edge over Chrome at 5 hours and 9 minutes.
3. Opera (using the same engine as Chrome) did a good job of 6 hours and 18 minutes.
4. Edge was able to beat 'em all, lasting for 7 hours and 22 minutes.

"Numbers don't lie."

However, the only downside of using Edge is that it currently supports very limited Add-ons.

Now, let us make things easier for you. To conclude everything in just two lines:

What's the best Internet browser for my Desktop PC ?

Google Chrome. (Edge still has a long way to go)

What's the best Internet browser for my laptop ?

Microsoft Edge.
